Aetna Network Termination

As reported in a
previous eALERT, Continuum Health Partners (Continuum) is no longer a part of the Metro NY Aetna network beginning on June 6, 2010. Aetna has been in ongoing discussions with physicians who solely admit to Continuum Hospitals to remain in-network, but unfortunately has been unable to reach an agreement. Therefore, effective August 5, 2010, providers who have sole admitting privileges at Continuum Hospitals will terminate from the Metro NY Aetna network. Continuum consists of the following healthcare facilities: Beth Israel Medical Center - Petrie Division and Kings Highway Division, Long Island College Hospital, New York Eye & Ear Infirmary, and St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center - Roosevelt Division and St. Luke's Division.

This termination comes on the heels of a similar contract dispute between Continuum and UHC/Oxford. Although negotiations were lengthy and contentious, ultimately their contract was renewed. Therefore, please keep in mind that it is not uncommon for negotiations to continue right up until the contract's expiration date. C&B is monitoring the situation closely and will continue to keep you updated on further developments. If you have any questions, please contact us.
